St. Michael’s is a flourishing, forward thinking and outstanding Church school where the leadership and management and RE Faculty Lead are a driving force behind the school community, embracing and celebrating being a faith school and fulfilling our combined Mission and Vision which underpins all that we do.
As a Church of England school, the subject of RE is part of everything we do. Through the delivery of outstanding RE lessons we develop the knowledge and understanding of the pupils about Christianity and other world faiths. Through discussions and debates we encourage the pupils to discuss philosophical points and present their own ideas and findings.
Furthermore, the RE Faculty and staff are strategic in fulfilling of the school’s Mission and Vision and in so doing, shape the direction of the school community for the future. As a school we believe in educating the whole child and teaching children to be good citizens firmly underpinning the Gospel values.
As a Church school and part of the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education we promote that ‘Religious Education (RE) is not just an academic subject, but, lies at the very heart of the curriculum and has an important role in reflecting and conveying the distinctively Christian character of the school’ (SDBE website).
St. Michael’s is a Voluntary Aided Church of England school and so the Board of Governors is responsible for the syllabus for RE. and also ensures, by delegating the responsibility to the Headteacher, that RE is timetabled to take place each week for all pupils, in accordance with the Trust Deed of the school. Furthermore, the school adheres to the Church of England Education Office ‘Statement of Entitlement’.
