On behalf of the Staff, Governors, children and parents, it gives me great pleasure in welcoming your family to our school website. St. Michael’s is a thriving Voluntary Aided Church of England Primary School, committed to providing a broad and balanced education within a secure Christian environment.
Our mission statement states that St. Michael’s School is committed to developing in its pupils an understanding of the Christian faith. Within this context, the school teaches respect for other world religions, whilst maintaining Christian values in its ethos and teaching. Christian collective worship is a significant part of our school’s daily life. St. Michael’s gives high priority to the spiritual development of the individual by promoting a sense of curiosity and excitement about the world and encouraging openness in our search for truth, meaning and the purpose in life. St. Michael’s shares a partnership, involving school, home and church, which encourages everyone to make a positive contribution to the wider community.
At St. Michael's we are fortunate to have enthusiastic staff, who are committed to high standards of education and behaviour. The school has a wonderful "family" atmosphere, which gives children a secure and happy environment in which to learn.
The school has been awarded several awards and these include as being recognised as by the Local Authority as “A Self Reviewing and Self Evaluating School" in recognition of the systems that we have in place for developing and monitoring the curriculum. Further, the Basic Skills Agency awarded the school for the 3rd consecutive time the “Basic Skills Quality Mark" for developing to a very high standard the basic skills in reading, writing, spelling and number work. This further fulfills the outstanding recognition the school receieved from Ofsted in 2008. A further success for the school is the accredition as an "exemplar" Investor in People for the whole school community. All of which we are extremely proud of!
Other awards for the school include firstly the "Unicef Rights and Respecting Award" that the school was awarded in February 2008. We were the first in Wandsworth and the second in the whole of London to recieve this award! The second award was a "Silver Award" by Transport for London for putting in place a superb School Travel Plan to enable our school community to keep safe. Again we were the first in Wandsworth to achieve this award! All of the awards illustrate why our school is so successful within the community of Southfields.
The most recent Ofsted Inspection took place in October 2008 and it as stated: ““This is an outstanding school. The great majority of parents agree. They say that their children make excellent progress here and are very happy.”
We have developed the school further and as we begin the new academic year 2009 we are excitedly now planning for the planned development of the school to 2 form of entry and a planned expansion programme. As we take up this exciting challenge St. Michael's will continue to thrive and excel as a Church of England school of high standing retaining our Christian ethos and fullfilling our Mission Statement as outlined in the School Prospectus.
