ST MICHAEL'S CHURCH
Our strong partnership with St. Michael’s Church enriches school life through:
Regular termly church services for Christian celebrations.
Clergy-led whole school worship sessions each half term.
Clergy-led class worships every Tuesday morning
Collaboration on community outreach and global initiatives.
“As Vicar of St Michaels Church I highly value the partnership that we have between school and church. There is a mutual sharing of expertise and knowledge. Each community holds the other in prayer and supports our mutual mission and vision.
In particular we are aware of the shared responsibility of discipling these young children and highly value the input of the school in this process.” (Revd Steve Melluish)
Steve and his team are seen as good friends to staff and pupils, providing pastoral support and guidance in times of need. The school regularly supports the St Michael’s Church Food Bank, which is run by a group of volunteers who provide nutritionally balanced emergency food supplies and support for people in crisis. Across the year we gather items to support this local charity to ensure that those less fortunate and in need can be supported.
The School Choirs and school musicians are regularly invited to sing / perform at services, celebrations and coffee mornings for the elderly hosted by St Michael’s Church and the Ackroydon Centre, which is a lovely opportunity for Church and school to work together for the good of all.
Kingdom for Kids
As a Church School, we feel that it is extremely important for the children to explore their faith in a personal, fun and interactive way and we are therefore very excited to be able to offer the opportunity for the children to do this during their lunchtime with Kingdom for Kids.
The club is run in partnership with St Michael’s Church by the Youth Work Team who lead the weekly ‘Kingdom for Kids Club’ for children for the Middle and Upper Phases at lunchtime. The club takes place on a Monday between 12:50-1:30pm and it is aimed at providing the opportunity for the children to find out more about what it means to be a Christian and to be friends with Jesus. The children play lots of games, make some interesting crafts and look at cool stories in the Bible.
Why is Kingdom for Kids important? - Pupil Voice
“We get to learn about God, pray to God and learn more about what the Bible means for us”.
“I enjoy having fun at Lord’s Club and learning new things from the Bible that we may not know”.
“We can learn about God and how we can worship Him not just in a Church, but in our school lives”.
“We learn different things each week that we may not learn otherwise and we learn more about what it means to have faith and how we can live that faith in our day to day lives”.
“We can ask questions that we might not ask anywhere else because we have known them for a long time and we feel really comfortable at Kingdom for Kids”.
“We learn more about what being a Christian is and different ways we can show our friends and family we believe in God”.
Global Partnership
St. Michael’s has developed a global link with the Maasai Academy in Kenya through St Michael's Church. This partnership involves:
Fundraising for resources.
Building connections to share Gospel values and cultural insights.
The Maasai Academy is in one of the most remote Maasai Communities near the Tanzanian border. Currently we have 220 children in the school.
To give you an idea of how remote it is – we are 3-4 hours’ drive from the nearest tarmac road or town. Most of the children in the school have never seen a tarmac road or been to a town. Almost all the children live in mud huts and their parents have never been to school themselves.
Recent Impact
To date, we have raised over £8,000 to support the academy, promoting mutual learning and understanding.
We are planning to join St Michael’s Church on their next visit to the Maasai Academy in 2025.
