St. Michael's CE School

Working Together For The Good Of All

“St. Michael’s Church of England School, established upon Christian foundations and living out the Christian faith, is committed to providing every child with an excellent education.”

A warm welcome to St. Michael’s CE School

On behalf of the Staff, Governors, children and parents, it gives me great pleasure as Headteacher to welcome you to our school. Through visiting the various tabs of this website you will see that St. Michael’s is a flourishing Voluntary Aided Church of England Primary School, committed to providing a broad and balanced education within a secure and nurturing Christian environment for children aged 3 – 11 years of age.

At St. Michael’s, provision for children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is at the centre of all we do and is promoted through the teachings of the Gospel values and the delivery of the Fundamental British Values. Furthermore, we are committed to safeguarding all members of our school community and it forms the ‘golden thread’ in all that we do to ensure that we provide a safe environment in which children can learn.

Through our school teaching a broad and balanced curriculum, which challenges and supports all learners, we prepare the pupils in our care for their life as a good citizen of the world. Furthermore in 2021 were very proud to be in The Times Schools Guide as 214 out of 16,000 schools. We do not teach to tests but place great value on teaching a high quality of education based upon the whole child and academic achievements highlight how well we educate our children.

Our most recent SIAMS Inspection stated:

“Pastoral care is extremely strong and excellently targeted to support learning and personal development. Hence, pupils are successfully encouraged to reach their God-given potential. Individual and group support is wide-ranging and expresses Christian love and concern for all of God’s children.”

Our combined Mission and Vision Statement state that St. Michael’s School is committed to developing in its pupils an understanding of the Christian faith and that by using our Christian values, we will:

All of this is achieved through our Motto: “Working Together for the Good of All.”

Within this context, the school teaches respect for other world religions, whilst maintaining Christian values in its ethos and teaching. St. Michael’s shares many partnerships, involving the school, home and church, which encourages everyone to make a positive contribution to the wider community. We also are working in partnership with Saint Cecilia’s, the local secondary school, through a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ – with the Leadership and staff working together to provide an outstanding ‘all through education’ for the pupils in Southfields.

The staff at St. Michael’s are enthusiastic and committed to high standards of education and behaviour across the school and all subject areas. The school has a wonderful “family atmosphere” which gives children a secure and happy environment in which to learn and develop as young adults. To see the ‘Who’s Who’ please visit our staffing page.

We promote the positive in all that we do and say, having a commitment to being positive role models and promoting the strong value of mutual respect for everyone. This forms part of our Growth Mindset methodology which you can find more information about within our school website.

We are recognised by the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education (SDBE) and Local Authority as a strong ‘self-reviewing and self-evaluating school” where our outstanding practice and school systems are shared with other schools. Furthermore, the school has achieved a number of awards in recognition of all that we have in place for developing and implementing a curriculum of the utmost standard.

Please refer to the link below outlining our school’s commendations. We are very proud of our achievements and want to celebrate and share this with you.  These awards also demonstrate how our school community is fulfilling the school motto of ‘Working together for the good of all.”

Our long term vision is to continue to thrive and excel as a Church of England school of high standing, retaining our Christian ethos and fulfilling our Mission and Vision statements whilst providing an education of the highest degree possible.

We encourage visitors to view our school website and learn all about our school and what we have achieved to date and also what is planned for the future.

With best wishes,

Ann-Marie Grant

Headteacher
