St. Michael's CE School

Working Together For The Good Of All

“St. Michael’s Church of England School, established upon Christian foundations and living out the Christian faith, is committed to providing every child with an excellent education.”

ASSESSMENT & TESTING

At St Michael’s, we are determined to ensure that all opportunities are available for the children to develop. We make use of accurate assessment for pupils of all ages in order to plan for their next steps in learning. Our learners achieve highly and make excellent progress – among the highest rates of attainment and progress both Locally and Nationally.

We were delighted that in the latest Sunday Times rankings, St Michael’s School was placed 214th out of 16,000 primary schools which includes independent, voluntary and state-funded schools. This puts us within the top 1% of schools nationally.

When are children assessed at St Michael’s?

Alongside continuous teacher assessments, there are national assessments at regular intervals in English primary education:

In year groups where End of Key Stage tests are not applicable (Years 1, 3, 4 and 5), the school uses Standardised tests to assess whether children have met Age Related Expectations or not.

Phonics screening check:

The phonics screening check is taken individually by all children in Year 1 in England and is usually taken in June. It is designed to give teachers, and parents information on how individual children are progressing in phonics. It helps to identify whether a child needs additional support so they do not fall behind in this vital early reading skill.
