PUPIL DEVELOPMENT

Welcome to our Personal Development, Behaviour & Welfare Website Pages

At St. Michael’s we care deeply about every single individual and wish to see them flourish in a safe and nurturing environment. We work hard to promote the physical and emotional well-being of children at our school, including healthy eating, fitness, healthy relationships and positive mental health.  In addition, we equip children with skills to stay safe online and safe from any form of abuse, such as bullying or exploitation.

Behaviour and attitudes are extremely important to us. With a strong emphasis on Christian values, we promote positive behaviour, including self-discipline and respect towards others, which will prepare every child for adult life.  In addition, we place high importance on attendance and punctuality, believing that ‘every second counts’ as we seek to provide each child with an outstanding education.

Personal development plays a key part in our school day.  We seek to equip children to become confident, self-assured learners, in accordance with our school vision and preparing them for later life as young adults.  This includes developing life-skills which will set them up for adult life and also promoting  ‘British values’ so that pupils can make a positive contribution to our society.  In addition, we place emphasis on promoting a ‘growth mindset’, where we encourage the principles of collaboration, innovation, persistence and reflection.

Our efforts in the area of character development are driven by core Christian values, which are well embedded at our school.  We follow the guidance laid out by the Department of Education (November 2019) and the Church of England Discussion Paper on Character Development entitled ‘The Fruit of the Spirit’ (October 2015).

Valuing All God’s Children (VAGC)

As a Church of England primary school, we understand the importance of looking after all of the children in our care, physically, emotionally and spiritually. It is truly a gift from God that we get to educate so many wonderful children and we ensure that we follow our vision to create a secure and nurturing Christian environment which offers an inclusive education for all. This includes affording pupils a sense of their own dignity and that all children, and adults, are welcome in school and are loved by God.

Our Anti-Bullying and Mental Health and Wellbeing policies all follow the Church of England guidelines set within their VAGC document (updated Summer 2019) and we are proud to be a church school where all children are made in God’s image and valued equally.
