Pupil Premium (PPG) Strategy

The pupil premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.

Pupil premium funding is available to both mainstream and non-mainstream schools, such as special schools and pupil referral units. Pupil premium funding makes a huge difference to schools.

We ask parents if they think they are eligible for Free School Meals, particularly this year (2023-2024) where they are free to all pupils this year, to still fill out the paperwork – it makes a huge difference to the school!

The basis on which pupil premium funding is calculated will not be affected by the introduction of UIFSM (Universal Infant Free School Meals).

The funding for the Pupil Premium Grant is informed by data collected in the School Census.

For the financial year 2022-23, the same criteria currently used to assess FSM eligibility (i.e. receipt of qualifying benefits) will continue to be used to assess whether a pupil qualifies for the pupil premium (£1345 per child at present). Data on FSM-eligible pupils will continue to be collected by the department annually, through the School Census (for mainstream settings) and the Alternative Provision census (for non-mainstream settings).

Evidence & Impact of the Use of Pupil Premium Funding at St. Michael’s
