“St. Michael’s Church of England School, established upon Christian foundations and living out the Christian faith, is committed to providing every child with an excellent education.”
QUALITY OF EDUCATION
Welcome to the Quality of Education Website Pages
St. Michael’s is committed to providing a broad and balanced curriculum for all our children which develops them into well-rounded citizens who are respectful, tolerant, accepting of difference and can transfer these skills along with what they have learnt in English, Maths, RE, Science and Foundation subjects across the whole curriculum and into their future lives. Through our mission and vision we:
create a secure and nurturing Christian environment which values and respects every individual and their beliefs;
equip children, through an innovative and broad curriculum, with confidence, life skills to reach their full God-given potential;
partner with home, church and the local community to help children make a positive contribution to God’s world.
Our school is involved in a teacher research group with the Wandsworth Maths Hub which teaches using the Maths Mastery approach. We use whole texts to create rich English lessons using our “Big Write” cycle as well as incorporating Phonics, Reading and Grammar activities into the start of our day. We use the SDBE schemes of work for RE; Jigsaw to teach PSHE, Computing and French. The rest of the foundation subjects are taught in isolation, with teachers using the National Curriculum for planning and assessment. PE and Music are taught by our specialist teachers.
We want our children to know how to study and work effectively on their own, and also how to contribute as part of a group; to listen in lessons, but also to speak and present. We want them to be as confident in the new technologies of tablet, cloud and programming language as they are with book, paper and pen. They will know how to collaborate without copying, how to debate while still listening and will have learned that enthusiasm and curiosity are the best tools we have. We use our Growth Mindset characters of: Persistence, Innovation, Collaboration and Reflection to support these ideals and in-still the right attitude to learning across the whole school.
This was validated when we were re-credited with our Quality Mark in November 2022 and were highly commended for our excellent work in English and Maths.
This section of our website gives an overview of our curriculum but please do contact us if you have any questions at all.
I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5
